        WHEN TO KEEP YOUR CHILD HOME FROM SCHOOL  

     Mrs. Rutter RN CSN and Mrs. Langan RN CSN would like to welcome you back to school.  Below a list of reminders of when your child should be kept home.

A student may return to school after being excluded for communicable disease by; submitting a physician’s note stating that the student does not currently have signs or symptoms of a communicable disease;  submitting a physician’s note stating that the disease is not communicable in a school setting; or by readmission criteria as established by the Sayreville Board of Education. 

The criteria for exclusion and re-admission of communicable disease conditions are listed below.

CHICKENPOX – exclude until after seven days for onset of rash or all blisters have crusted over (may be longer than 7 days).

COMMON COLD – exclude until fever subsides (RECOMMENDED stay home 24hours fever free).

CONJUNCTIVITIS, BACTERIAL AND/OR VIRAL- exclude until crusting is no longer present and permission from physician.

FEVER – exclude until fever subsides (RECOMMENDED fever free for 24hours)

FIFTH DISEASE – exclude until treatment has begun.

HEAD LICE – Treated and Nit free upon nurse’s inspection and discretion.

IMPETIGO, RINGWORM –Note from physician stating treatment has started and may return from school.

MENINGITIS – exclude until written permission from physician is issued

SCABIES – exclude until treatment has begun.

STREPTOCOCCAL SORE THROAT AND SCARLET FEVER – exclude until antibiotic treatment has been in place for 24 hours and no fever

VOMITING AND/OR DIARRHEA –symptom free for 24hours.
