Winter brings a blizzard of family activities.
Consider ice skating, sledding, cross-country skiing
or downhill skiing. All provide total body
workouts. Get the whole family out shoveling
and see how big a pile of snow you can make.
Building snowmen or snow forts can be fun and
strenuous work, too.
Encourage family activities that have a physical
component, whether it’s a walk around the block or a
night at the bowling alley. Create targets to
hit with snowballs or let the kids get out the
baseball bats and pitch snowballs to them.
Use technology to keep your children active.
Some video games let kids be part of the on-screen
action. If your child is uncomfortable in a
competitive environment, look for organized group
activities that stress going at their own pace.
Keep a box filled with active toys like hula hoops,
foam balls, and jump ropes, and stage “indoor
Olympic games.”
