Curriculaughs
with Jeff Nathan
On Friday,
January 13, 2012
Arleth students were treated to the fun of poetry
with the slapstick humor of Jeff Nathan.
Two assemblies were held in the morning
followed by four afternoon poetry writing sessions
for second and third graders.
One lucky student from each first lunch period class
was invited to join Mr. Nathan and their teacher
for lunch in the library.
Teachers will be working with students to build on the enthusiasm
generated by Mr. Nathan to write their own original poetry
which will then be published.
Emma Arleth's
Birthday & Principal for a Day
On Monday,
January 9, 2012
Arleth School celebrated Emma L. Arleth's birthday
with birthday cake for everyone
and our annual student
Principal for a Day!
Pearl Harbor
Memorial Presentation
Mr. Richard
Kosmoski, MS
of the Emergency Services Management Department,
Sayreville Fire Department, and President of the NJ Volunteer Fire
Chiefs presented a touching and informative tribute to our American
servicemen especially those who were involved in the attack on
Pearl Harbor on Tuesday, December 6, 2011.
He shared a Powerpoint slide show in which he described life in the
military, identified various types of battleships, and talked about
various military jobs, including his work with radar. He described
what happened at Pearl Harbor on the "Day that Would Live in
Infamy."
Then he concluded with a beautiful video in which different
generations came together in appreciation for those who have served.
He and several local veterans appeared in uniform and presented the
flag.
Musical
Interludes
Arleth has
begun a new ritual on Friday Daily News broadcasts.
Each week a different guest musician introduces us
to a different instrument and plays a sampling to share the sound
and types of music that can be played with it.

Our first
guest was Mr. Raif Hyseni
who delighted us with his accordion skills. Here he is demonstrating
how the keyboard cover he invented is used to train musicians to
play the accordion without watching their hands.

Miss Sarah
O'Sullivan demonstrated
the clarinet, a type of woodwind instrument. All of our guest
musicians are students at Montclair State University and have been
observing Mr. Zorner.
Summer Readers
Honored
All
students who completed their summer reading logs were recently given
special recognition on Arleth Daily News.
After introducing themselves, each student was presented with a
summer reading certificate and a free book of their choice
compliments of the PTO.
