Students were invited to draw a picture showing what this year's
summer reading theme, "Reading is Your Passport to the World!"
means to them. The winning entries are below.

James, grade 2, won the grand prize for creating a replica of an actual passport. The "stamps" inside are small pictures of actual books, each from a different country.
Grade level winners were Nawar for kindergarten,
Orlando for first grade,
and Afaq for third grade.
Be sure to stop by the Sayreville Public Library
to see the winning drawing from each school and all the entries from each student.

Congratulations to our first
Arleth Safety Patrol team!

The Arleth Safety Patrol members gave a presentation before the
Board of Education during the June 21 School Board meeting.
These students have successfully defined the role of the safety patrol as hall monitors who look out for the safety and well being of all who are traveling through the halls, during arrival and dismissal as well as during lunch periods. They have set a high standard for all future safety patrol teams.

Head of the Class - June 2011

The Sayreville Elementary Schools and Sayreville Middle School just keep giving back and we are so proud of them. The Middlesex County Food Organization and Outreach Distribution Services (M.C.F.O.O.D.S.) has offered their thanks and congratulations to our students for their amazing contribution to the 2010 MCFOODS School Food Drive. This year approximately 61 tons of food was collected from the 121 participating schools throughout the county. Out of the 61 tons, the Sayreville Schools once again impressed us with their totals: Arleth – 950 lbs. thanks to the efforts of Mrs. Comerford and her class along with the PTO; Eisenhower – 700 lbs.; Truman – 800 lbs.; Wilson 700 lbs.; SUES – 750 lbs.; Middle School – 200 lbs. which gives the District a total of 4,100 pounds of food donated. Thank you to the students and their families for their much needed donations and thank you for showing us just how much you care!

MRS. PAM GUNTER

Mrs. Gunter, Librarian at Arleth School, has recently been elected Vice President of the New Jersey Association of School Librarians. She is currently serving as Recording Secretary and will begin her new position in August. Her main responsibility will be chairing the 2012 Annual Fall Conference and preparing for subsequent roles as President-Elect and NJASL President over the following two years. Mrs. Gunter is also presently completing a two-year term as President of the county affiliate, the Union-Middlesex Association of School Librarians, which inspired her growing involvement in the state professional organization.

Congratulations to Mrs. Whiteley,
our 2010-2011
Teacher of the Year!

It has been a tradition since the year 2000
when Mrs. Bulla first bestowed a tiara upon Mrs. Brady,
that all previous TOTYs gather to honor the
newest Teacher of the Year
with an intimate reception
and the annual passing on of the regalia.
May you wear it proudly, Mrs. Whiteley!
